Common Ground Art Fair Returns to Birmingham

As summer winds down, the outdoor art fair season is also wrapping up.
But not before a decades-old tradition returns to northern Oakland County.
More than 80,000 people are expected to visit downtown Birmingham for the 44th annual Common Ground Birmingham Street Art Fair this weekend. At the fair, 150 artists will share their work with thousands of visitors from across the region.
CultureShift’s Amanda LeClaire speaks with Karen Delhey, the executive director of the Guild of Artists & Artisans, about the creation of the Guild and how art fairs allow relationships between makers and buyers of art to thrive.
The guild is a non-profit arts organization with over a thousand artist members that organizes six art fairs a year.
“Our mission is to provide those artists the opportunity to market their work. We do that by producing fine arts fairs,” says Delhey.
According to Delhey, the Common Ground fair will have all sorts of different and fun “mixed media” art on display.
“Art is such a personal thing and that’s one of the wonderful things about art fairs,” she says.
