Sen. Gary Peters On News This Week: Kavanaugh Hearings and PFAS Contamination

“If we have justices that are at the extremes, we are going to feed the fires of partisanship…which threatens our democracy.”

Judge Brett Kavanaugh will testify Thursday before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee in an attempt to defend his personal and moral record against multiple accusations of sexual assault and misconduct.

Kavanaugh’s first accuser — Christine Blasey Ford, a professor from California — will also testify and give her account of what transpired at a party in 1982.

While Dr. Ford will try to convince the senators she is not lying about a traumatic experience at the hands of Kavanaugh, Kavanaugh is essentially fighting to convince just 50 sitting senators that he still deserves to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court.

WDET carries the testimony live Thursday morning. On Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson, we hear from one of our two senators about how the controversy is affecting senators on both sides of the aisle, and what discussions are being had in Washington.

“If we have justices that are at the extremes, we are going to feed the fires of partisanship…which threatens our democracy,” says Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI), who talks about the confirmation process, as well as Michigan issues such as PFAS chemical contamination in our water.
