What is Michigan’s Political Identity in 2018?

Is Michigan a red, blue, or purple state?

MPRN

Michigan was a solidly blue state, for the purposes of national elections, from 1988 until 2016, when it flipped and helped Donald Trump win the White House.

Two years later, though, it looks like Democrats may have big wins in the state during the mid-term elections, capturing most of the statewide races and possibly flipping some congressional seats as well as control of at least one house of the Legislature.

So, what does that make us? Red? Blue? Or is it some mixture of those colors?

What is our political identity right now?

Cheyna Roth, state Capitol correspondent for the Michigan Public Radio Network, joins Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson to talk about her recent reporting on this question. You can read and listen to her reporting here.

They are also joined by TJ Bucholz, founder and president at Vanguard Public Affairs, a political PR firm in Lansing.
