Guitarist Paul Galbraith and cellist Antonio Meneses will kick off their first US tour as a duo here in metro Detroit.
Over the weekend, they will perform at the Grosse Point War Memorial, the Village Theater in Canton and at Oakland University.
But what brought this Brazilian cellist and guitarist from Scotland together?
WDET’s Ryan Patrick Hooper speaks with the duo about how they came together as a group. They also perform in studio.
Gilbraith says he was living in Brazil when he first became familiar with Meneses’ music.
“I bumped into Antonio at the airport,” says Galbraith. “I was amazed to see him sitting there and we got chatting…generally about things. Eventually I plucked up the courage …and Antonio was immediately receptive to the idea.”
According to Meneses, the duo’s playing style “has to do with the repertoire that exists for guitar and cello which is relatively limited.”
