Postcards from Hamtramck: A Shopping Cart to the the World
Take a visit to Al-Haramine International Foods. A staple of Hamtramck and a grocery store focused on diversity.
Established 18 years ago, Al-Haramine International Foods caters to the region’s diverse and growing immigrant population. They sell Yemeni, Bangladeshi, Indian, Polish, Bosnian and Albanian foods along with fresh vegetables and fruits. Some of their customers travel significant distances to do their grocery shopping in the heart of Hamtramck.
WDET food journalism fellow Nargis Hakim Rahman spoke with workers and customers at Al-Haramine International Foods to learn about why they shop at Al-Haramine.
The audio was captured and introduced by journalist Nargis Hakim Rahman who is a Feet in 2 Worlds Food Journalism Fellow at WDET.
