The 91st Academy Awards are this Sunday.

It hasn’t been the most notable year for movies — especially from an artistic perspective.

But there are plenty of storylines to follow going into this year’s Oscars. There’s no host this year. The music is getting a lot of attention. And Netflix productions are up for awards this year.

Cheyna Roth is the Michigan public radio world’s unofficial resident movie buff and couch critic. Officially, she’s the state Capitol correspondent for the Michigan Public Radio Network.

Ryan Patrick Hooper is co-host of Culture Shift on WDET.
