Each week, Detroit News reporter Melody Baetens gives you a seat at the table at the latest restaurant or dining trend in metro Detroit.

This week, Baetens talks about big changes in Eastern Market—one of the city’s favorite neighborhoods.

“Real estate investor-developer Sanford Nelson and his family having been buying up a lot of the buildings,” says Baetens. “He bought the building that houses Supino’s (Pizzeria) and Russel Street Deli and Bert’s Marketplace.”

There’s some skepticism about the recent changes.

“People have decades of tradition going to Eastern Market,” adds Baetens. “There’s still a lot of businesses that have stood the test of time.”
