River Spirit at Deluxx Fluxx

River Spirit is a band that is hard to describe; their presence is as much about vibe, emotion, and atmosphere, as it is about the music itself. Perhaps they can best be described as an experimental fusion of neo-soul, indie-rock, and jazz-pop. They put out an album recently and are opening at Deluxx Fluxx for ShyGirls.

Ferndale Spring Fever Spotlight: Noveliss

There are lots of local bands on the lineup for Ferndale Spring Fever, which is this weekend at the Loving Touch, Otus Supply, The Magic Bag and the New Way Bar. Hip-hop artist and lyricist Noveliss performs Friday that the New Way Bar. He is a quarter of the rap supergroup Clear Soul Forces, and in his solo work, creates unique rhymes that weave in Anime and Manga references.

Saturday, April 27th

After Hours Radio at The Club Above

Explorative, groove-heavy rock band After Hours Radio will be at The Club Above on Saturday. This band formed in Ann Arbor in 2014, so they’re getting together to celebrate their 5 year anniversary with one of its founding members who is returning after a handful of years out of the country. They’ll be joined by the live debut of a project called Brothers Duo, as well as gritty power-pop/indie-punk band from Lansing called The Plurals.

Fangs and Twang Album Release at Ziggy’s

If Creedence Clearwater, Warren Zevon’s Werewolves of London, and Hold Steady were fused together in the laboratory of a Vincent Price-like mad scientist, you’d have Fangs and Twang. They identify as “mystical country”, because they’ve got the raspy balladeering, the riffs, the stomping rhythms, but their lyrics are straight out of a midnight cult horror b-movie, singing about wolf’s bane, and swamp things and vampires. They’re putting out their third album Spirits & Chasers at the end of this month.
