Air Pollution Kills 7 Million Every Year. Thousands Are Americans.
Author Beth Gardiner joins host Stephen Henderson to talk about the importance of clean air for the health of humans and our planet.
Air pollution is a problem that kills millions of people every year, including more than 100,000 Americans.
Environmental journalist and author Beth Gardiner, whose new book, “Choked: Life and Breath in the Age if Air Pollution,” explores air quality issues through history and all over the world.
“It’s not something we can look around the world and easily see, I think that notion of invisibility is an important one when it comes to this issue,” says Gardiner.
Gardiner tells Stephen Henderson that although the air in the U.S. is much cleaner than it once was, it is still doing very real damage to the health of the population — especially people of color and the poor.
“This is a danger that is kind of tracking all the fractures that exist in our society right now,” says Gardiner of environmental disparities. Her book also takes a look at air pollution issues in China, India and Poland.
