Preet Bharara on Mueller Investigation, Corruption and Impeachment

Former United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara joins Detroit Today.

As U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara gained a reputation for going after corruption on Wall Street and investigating public officials on all sides of the political aisle. Later, after the election of Donald Trump, he was fired for refusing to quit along will all other Obama-appointed prosecutors. He’s now the host of the Stay Tuned with Preet Podcast, and the author of a book that critiques not only the criminal justice system, but also our current political discourse.

Bharara will be in town on November 12th at the Royal Oak Music Theater for a live conversation with former U.S. Prosecutor Barbara McQuade and Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Ahead of his appearance in Royal Oak, he talks with Detroit Today’s Stephen Henderson.

“In normal times you would not expect a president…to not only suggest but actually announce that the next G7 was actually going to take place at his resort,” says Bharara. On the subject of impeachment, he adds: “I agree with the notion that it is important that as impeachment proceeds for everything to look even-handed and as bipartisan and fair as possible.”
