Now in its 42nd year, the Detroit Jazz Festival was held without an audience and broadcast virtually in 2020 in order to adhere to pandemic-related restrictions on gatherings. The decision on the festival’s format for this year is expected to be made in June or July and will be contingent on local, state and federal guidelines.

“Last year, we preserved our 41-year legacy and produced a festival that was safe, live and free to nearly a million jazz fans around the globe,” says Chris Collins, Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation president and artistic director. “We look forward to leveraging that experience to … continue our mission of delivering free jazz to audiences here and abroad.”
