Satori Shakoor is the founder of The Secret Society Of Twisted Storytellers and executive producer of Twisted Storytellers on WDET. She says her life has changed drastically in the past two years. “I have been through a mastectomy, I’ve been through chemo, I’ve been through radiation, and coming out somehow feeling younger.” Shakoor says her comfort comes from “being able to choose life … to choose life and be full of it.”
Shakoor says throughout the pandemic, she’s reminded herself that challenges are opportunities to grow and overcome. “It’s like seeing cracks in the concrete and then seeing little plants growing up through the cracks. That’s what we’re like right now, slowly coming, emerging.”
Here are what other listeners say are the things bringing them comfort and joy in 2021:
Nothing brings me joy like truth. I’ve been watching Nova and looking at how the earth changes and science and how intelligent folks adjust their actions and beliefs when new information comes forth. Also looking at “intelligent” folks who won’t apply that to all areas of life.

This year is very different for me. After losing my husband in July, I’m bolstered by the love and support of friends and family during this season. This program and stories help tremendously.

What WOULD bring me comfort and joy is the passing of a federal voting rights bill.
