A one of a kind shelter opens in Metro Detroit today.
The Jewish Senior Life organization announced Monday, during “Worldwide Elder Abuse Awareness Day”, that it is now home to the Center for Elder Abuse and Prevention. WDET’s Amy Miller spoke with Associate Director of Jewish Senior Life, Barbara Giles.
She says vacant units at Jewish Senior Life in Oak Park and West Bloomfield will be used to temporarily house seniors who are in abusive situations. One in 24 seniors is victim to abuse lead to creating the new shelter, according to Giles.
