Detroit Tigers Face Life Without Team’s Best Hitter
The Detroit Tigers are scrambling to stay in contention after a serious injury to All Star hitter Miguel Cabrera.
The Detroit Tigers face a significant amount of the second half of the Major League Baseball season without the services of the team’s best hitter.
The Tigers had already been struggling to keep a winning record even with record-setting first baseman Miguel Cabrera, who many people consider the best hitter in all of baseball.
So when Cabrera limped off the field with a strained leg and onto the injured list for a minimum six-week stay, the Tigers best chance at earning a playoff berth may have left with him.
Now Detroit has to count on the rest of the offense, especially designated hitter Victor Martinez, to pick up the slack.
The team could seek a trade before the deadline at the end of this month. But Detroit may very likely try to add a starting pitcher, as it has in years past, rather than a hitter.
The trick will be to stay in contention until Cabrera returns for the stretch run which, including rehabilitation and getting back to speed in a few minor league games, could conceivably take the All Star until September. Detroit is still only a few games out of first place in the American League Central division.
