What’s News?
Christy McDonald, host of MiWeek on DPTV offers her take on the latest news.
Christy McDonald and Stephen Henderson take a look at this week’s top news stories on a local and national level.
- Kim Davis: McDonald and Henderson were both surprised that the Rowan County Clerk was sent to jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Stephen says that the Davis ordeal points out how difficult it is for some people to accept that the law is the ultimate authority, not one’s religion.
- Michigan’s Vacationing Legislature: After joking about our lawmakers being on a 17-day vacation, Stephen and McDonald reach the conclusion that disgraced Representatives Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat will never resign from office, which will force their colleagues to hold expulsion hearings.
- Drowned Syrian boy’s photo: Though the published photograph of Aylan Kurdi, a 3-year-old boy found dead on the shore of a Turkish beach, caused controversy, McDonald and Henderson feel that it needs to be shown to bring the world’s attention to the plight of migrants trying to escape the clutches of war.
