Your Election Day 2016 Soundtrack From Detroit Today
What song or music evokes images of patriotism, protest, voting, or the presidency?
It’s here! Election Day 2016 is upon us.
No matter how frustrating this election cycle has been for many Americans, this is a day to reflect on our democracy and our rights as citizens of America.
So Detroit Today host Stephen Henderson asks listeners, what song or music evokes feelings or images of your America, voting, or the presidency?
He’s joined by Ann Delisi, host of Essential Music on WDET (weekend days at 11 a.m.) and Rob Reinhart, host of both Essential Music (Saturdays at 2 p.m.) and Acoustic Cafe (Sundays at 9 a.m.), who give their picks for your Election Day soundtrack.
“For me, patriotic feelings have always been sort of associated with this concept of protest music,” says Reinhart. “To me, this has always been important and it’s always there… There’s always protest music because there’s always something to protest.”
“Music is the soundtrack of our lives, no matter what you’re talking about, but it certainly is a soundtrack for politics more than we probably consider sometimes,” says Delisi.
