Brad Wenzel made a name for himself as a comedian in Detroit’s homegrown comedy scene before moving to Los Angeles to continue pursuing his dream.
Now his debut album of stand-up material Sweet Nothings is out now on Jack White’s Third Man Records and big-time comedians such as Amy Schumer and Patton Oswalt are taking notice.
WDET’s Ryan Patrick Hooper speaks with Wenzel about coming up in Detroit and the success of his latest stand-up album.
Detroit “is a great place to learn” as a comedian because “you can actually get up in front of real audiences relatively easily,” says Wenzel.
According to Wenzel, developing his voice as a comedian didn’t happen overnight.
“It developed over time…I just got better at writing better short jokes,” he says.
Wenzel will perform at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase on September 14th & 15th.
