Rep. Andy Levin Says Democrats Will Pass Build Back Better and Infrastructure Legislation
As President Biden visits Michigan to promote his infrastructure bill, Levin says he’s a firm “no” until there’s a vote on the larger $3.5 trillion budget bill.
President Biden is visiting Michigan on Tuesday to promote his bipartisan infrastructure bill and the larger “Build Back Better” package, which represents a major effort at climate and economic reform.

“Those of us who are really progressives who are fighting to get as much of the president’s agenda as we can are trying to raise the common denominator,” he says. “We are going to pass the infrastructure program and the president’s Build Back Better Budget.” Levin says a reconciliation package is necessary to achieve more spending for child care, jobs and other working-class investments. “The only reason we have to use reconciliation is because we cannot get one Republican vote,” he says.
Republicans and more conservative Democrats have criticized Biden’s infrastructure bill for being too costly, but Levin says, “We are ready to pay for every penny of $3.5 trillion … by having the wealthiest individuals pay their share of taxes.”
