DER Weekends: Fatema Haque explores Bangladeshi community through portrait project

On the latest episode of the Detroit Evening Report Weekends, WDET’s Tia Graham spends some time with artist, writer and educator Fatema Haque.
Metro Detroit has a growing and thriving Bangladeshi community. Haque’s recent exhibit at the Shapiro Library gallery in Ann Arbor, “Bangladeshi in Michigan,” explored the history, culture and experiences of Bangladeshi Americans.
She created hand-embroidered portraits for the exhibit and displayed personal photographs collected from community members.
Haque settled in Detroit with her family when she was nine and is a product of Detroit Public Schools and the University of Michigan. She says the lives of Bangladeshi Americans have changed in dramatic ways over the past 30 years.
