In The Groove: Birthday candles for Gil Scott-Heron and Marvin Gaye, plus disco-meets-pop

On In The Groove, I consider Gil Scott-Heron and Marvin Gaye to be poet philosopher kings who could take lyrics capturing the moment and turn it into music that’ll soundtrack the rest of your life. So, there’s no way around celebrating the birthday of Scott-Heron and Gaye, who would’ve turned 75 and 85 this week, respectively.

There’s also a mini-mixtape exploring some of the disco influence on today’s pop acts like Gossip, Remi Wolf and Channel Tres, and some electronic-meets-punk music from Lip Critic, who will be in town at the Lager House on June 24.
