Record Store Day 2024: What you need to know

Music lovers — especially those who collect vinyl records — are anticipating another eventful Record Store Day on Saturday, April 20.

This year’s edition of the long-running retail holiday features exclusive and first-run releases ranging from pop stars like Sabrina Carpenter, critically-acclaimed acts such as Remi Wolf, and Michigan and Detroit legends like Iggy & the Stooges and Slum Village.

Keep reading to see notable records releasing on Saturday for RSD, including WDET staff picks. This is clearly not an exhaustive list, but you can find everything scheduled to be released on RSD’s official website.

Record Store Day 2024 highlights

Iggy & the Stooges – Live at Lokerse Feesten, 2005

Michigan punk legends Iggy Pop and the Stooges reunited in 2003 and performed a series of concerts around the world to celebrate their comeback after breaking up in 1974. Live at Lokerse Feesten, 2005 is a deluxe package containing live performances from this era that includes color vinyl, an OBI side spine and printed inner sleeve. This marks the first time Live at Lokerse Feesten, 2005 is available on vinyl, and just 2,500 copies will be available nationwide.

Slum Village – Detroit Deli (A Taste of Detroit)

Detroit’s Slum Village returns with another Record Store Day release after dropping a double-LP edition of their 2002 album Trinity (Past, Present and Future) last year. Slum Village’s Detroit Deli (A Taste of Detroit) was initially released in 2004, featuring “Foolish,” their highest charting single to date — produced by Kanye West and John Legend on vocals. The RSD version of Detroit Deli (A Taste of Detroit) is printed on clear vinyl with orange splatter.

The Hives – Lex Hives and Live From Terminal Five

Part of the early 2000s garage rock revival alongside The White Stripes and The Strokes, Swedish rockers The Hives will reissue their fifth studio album, 2012’s Lex Hives, remastered with previously unreleased bonus tracks “High School Shuffle” and “Insane.” The Record Store Day exclusive also features the live album, A Midsummer Hives Dream, recorded during the band’s performance at New York’s Terminal 5. The Hives will return to Detroit after a sold out show at El Club last November, this time headlining St. Andrew’s Hall on Sept. 22.

Death Cab For Cutie – Live At The Showbox

Death Cab For Cutie will drop Live At The Showbox for RSD 2024, a 17-track compilation of their three-night stand at the Showbox in the band’s hometown of Seattle, recorded Feb. 24-26, 2020. This will be the first time these songs get a physical release, limited to 2,500 copies on pink marble vinyl.

Remi Wolf – Live at Electric Lady

Bay Area singer-songwriter Remi Wolf paid a visit to New York City’s famed Electric Lady Studios to record several tracks, including a cover of Frank Ocean’s “Pink + White.” This session is collected on a limited-edition Orange Crush 12” vinyl with just 1,500 copies available nationwide on Saturday.

  • The Los Angeles duo of brothers teamed up with legendary Italian producer Giorgio Moroder on the heels of his work with Donna Summer to create a new evolution in their sound. Based on electronics and with a disco feel, 1979’s No. 1 in Heaven marked a turning point for the band who are still active today.
